Trading his craftsmanship outside one of old shophouse near intersection of Beach Street and Melayu Street, is 78 years old Master Ng Chai Tiam, an old man with multiple of traditional Chinese art and craft skills such as seal engraving, ink and watercolour painting, calligraphy as well as clog painting. For over four decades, Master Ng has easily crafted more than ten thousand of traditional Chinese stone seals which were once used to represent a person's signature, an unique way to stamp his/her authority or identity. Besides the engraved seal of traditional Chinese family surname and origin, the ever enthusiastic Master Ng has creatively crafted stone seals in multi-languages, Chinese symbols and zodiac signs, business logos and elaborate patterns in order to attract and promote art of seal engraving to people from diversity cultural backgrounds. Each stone seal ordered by customers is uniquely hand crafted, hence no two engraved seals are alike, Master Ng will keep a copy of finished art as collection and references. These days on Penang island, only left remaining few who are still actively practising and making the old traditional Chinese arts and crafts. May this seal engraving art be lasted for many centuries to come. 👍
